Planets orbiting other stars offer profound insights into the diversity of worlds in our galaxy. Our exoplanetary research spans discovery, characterisation, and theory—probing atmospheres, climates, and habitability beyond the Solar System. Edinburgh scientists lead and contribute to global observing campaigns, develop advanced models of planetary and atmospheric physics, and create technologies that enable next-generation detection and characterisation. By comparing exoplanets with our Solar System, we seek to understand the processes that shape planetary systems and identify environments that may host life. This article was published on 2025-12-15
