Facilities

The University of Edinburgh hosts an exceptional suite of laboratories, cleanrooms, analytical instruments, and computational resources that support world-class research across planetary science, astrobiology, geochemistry, remote sensing, and mission technology.

These facilities—spread across multiple Schools and the UK Astronomy Technology Centre (UKATC)—provide the full chain of capability needed to explore planetary environments, analyse extraterrestrial materials, and develop the next generation of space instruments.

With strengths ranging from geochemical microanalysis to spacecraft engineering, Edinburgh offers one of the broadest planetary science infrastructures in the UK. The Centre for Planetary Sciences brings these resources into alignment, helping researchers, students, and external partners navigate and access the tools they need.
